Douglas County Sheriff Asking For Detention Agreement With ICE

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking to enter a detention agreement with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement to house detainees at the county jail.

Sheriff Aaron Hanson says in a letter to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners the detention agreement would allow detainees to stay closer to their families and increase revenue to the county.

Hanson says he's been in contact with the League of United Latin American Citizens, or LULAC, to discuss the agreement.

LULAC says it doesn't want a contractual agreement between Douglas County and ICE.

The Sheriff's Office and LULAC say they agree any detainment should be as humane and fair as possible.

The full letter and more details are available here.
